Our take on Gloamvault
The defining mechanic is unrestricted monster fusion: any two creatures can be combined, with abilities and statistics shaping the resulting minion. This replaces ordinary leveling with repeated experimentation across a roster of more than 500 monster types and 25 possible abilities.
What is Gloamvault?
Gloamvault is a dungeon-crawling RPG in which a resurrected evil wizard builds a party of monsters.
Enemies can be charmed under the right conditions, with lower health increasing the chance, and a party can contain up to five minions. Combat is turn-based with grid-based movement, spells, items, upgrades, and monsters carrying abilities from a pool of 25. Instead of conventional leveling, two monsters can be fused without restrictions on species or frequency, producing new combinations and possible ability inheritance. Each run uses a procedurally generated dungeon and includes permadeath. More than 500 monster types can appear, and encountered or recruited creatures are recorded in a bestiary.
How Gloamvault plays
- 01Monster charming
- Any encountered enemy can join the army when its health and other conditions allow a successful charm.
- 02Monster fusion
- Two creatures can be combined repeatedly, with similar abilities improving the result and mismatched abilities sometimes being inherited.
- 03Five-member parties
- A dungeon run can include a group of up to five minions.
- 04Procedural dungeons
- Dungeon layouts are generated for each run, which also uses permadeath.
- 05Build customization
- Spells, upgrades, and loot can alter combat, statistics, abilities, and other parts of a build.
- 06Monster bestiary
- Creatures encountered or charmed during play are recorded for collection tracking.
