We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Action RPG players who want to build characters by combining abilities from several classes
- Players interested in supernatural creatures and settings drawn from Southeast Asian folklore
- Groups of up to 4 who want to play a local co-op action RPG on one screen
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players who prefer a fixed character build may find the mix-and-match class and grid-based skill systems demanding to manage.
- Players seeking a tightly authored, unchanging map structure may not enjoy procedurally generated areas and randomized post-campaign missions.
- Players looking for a solo-only experience may not want the game's local and asynchronous multiplayer options.
Our take on Ghostlore
The flexible build system comes with a planning cost: skills and modifiers must be arranged in grids, and compound glyphs occupy 5 regular spaces. That leaves less room for players who want character progression without ongoing layout choices.
What is Ghostlore?
Ghostlore is an action RPG about fighting supernatural creatures from Southeast Asian folklore across procedurally generated maps inspired by Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the wider region.
It features more than 40 enemy types, with different tactics to face, and lets players collect and cook meals that raise stats. Character building combines abilities from 3 of 6 classes through a grid-based skill system: skills and modifiers can be arranged together, and compatible skills placed next to each other create combo skills. Glyphs occupy a separate body grid and provide powers and stat bonuses.
Weapons and equipment can also gain properties through item spirits and blessings. The game includes local co-op for up to 4 players on one screen, community mods through Steam Workshop, asynchronous ways to share equipment or summon another character, and post-campaign modes with randomized missions and endless play.
How Ghostlore plays

- 04Local co-op
- Up to 4 players can play together on the same screen.
- 05Post-campaign modes
- After completing the campaign, players can take on randomized missions or try an endless mode.
