Our take on Ghostboy
The game ties each family member’s progress to emotional energy, so attempts are limited rather than endlessly repeatable. That constraint supports a focus on shared support within the family, but it can also make setbacks carry more weight during the tower-defense levels.
What is Ghostboy?
Ghostboy follows a family through grief and recovery.
Choices shape family members’ storylines and can affect their mental health, while relationship management is part of the game’s strategy. Tower-defense levels pit the family against negative thoughts, with 50 tools, including 12 towers and 12 special abilities. Four companions support different approaches, and some of the 20 mental disorders introduce gameplay changes. The game has 42 tower-defense levels, including 9 boss fights, and 24 storyline branches, with 8 for each family member.
A first playthrough shows 3 randomly selected storylines; choices lead to different endings. The vendor gives an estimated 8–10 hours of gameplay and says attempts are limited by each family member’s emotional energy. Ghostboy is a game, not a therapeutic tool.
