Our take on FriendShapes
The defining mechanic is learning how to interact with each Shape through observation, dialogue, gestures, items, and situational actions instead of attacking. Wrong choices can worsen the protagonist’s condition, making encounter resolution a process of interpretation and experimentation.
What is FriendShapes?
Explore the twisted remains of Leavalley in a 2D-and-3D lite-RPG built around shifting Digressions.
Each area changes its layout, encounters, danger levels, and text events. Manage Physical, Mental, and Focus health alongside Sanity, Wellbeing, and Luck while searching for fragments of memory. Almost 40 Shapes can drain health or react to choices. Interactions use actions such as Observe, Gesture, Speak, Touch, Withdraw, inventory items, and occasional context actions; progress depends on learning each Shape’s behaviour and finding ways around conflict. Files add background material, while Scapes provide save points. The game lasts 7-10 hours and includes a soundtrack with over 70 songs. Randomized elements and changing maps give each Digression a different arrangement of locations and encounters.

FriendShapes compared to similar games
FriendShapes uses shifting labyrinths, abstract Shapes, and non-violent encounter puzzles. Angels of Death and Back to the Dawn are also RPGs, but their descriptions center on a spin-off RPG made with RPG Maker and a prison-escape story involving crime and corruption. Ghost of a Tale combines action-RPG exploration with stealth, disguises, and conversations, while Planescape: Torment: Enhanced Edition emphasizes an unconventional story, characters, and exploration of a strange city.
