Our take on Forward Line
The defining structure is its city-production victory race: every captured city adds one unit per turn, while victory requires controlling more than twice the opponent’s city count.
What is Forward Line?
Forward Line is a turn-based, medium-weight abstract strategy board game set during World War II.
Players maneuver military units across terrain, capture cities, and use those cities to produce one unit per turn. Victory goes to the player who controls more than twice as many cities as the opponent. Combat outcomes are deterministic rather than chance-based, while incomplete information creates risks such as hidden submarines. Ten unit types have distinct roles that must work together for positioning, deception, pursuit, and attacks. The game supports internet multiplayer, local hotseat play, and single-player matches against AI. An in-game tutorial introduces the rules, and an online manual covers the gameplay systems.
How Forward Line plays
- 01City-Based Production
- Each captured city generates one military unit during every game turn.
- 02Deterministic Combat
- Unit battles are resolved without random outcomes, placing emphasis on positioning and maneuver.
- 03Hidden Threats
- Limited information can conceal dangers such as submarines that cannot be seen.
- 04Multiplayer Modes
- Matches support internet play and local hotseat sessions.
- 05AI Opponents
- Single-player games can be played against computer-controlled opponents.
