RPGIs Feral Blue worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Strategy players who want to manage a ship and its crew rather than command armies on land
- Adventure players drawn to exploration, trading, and combat across a flooded world

Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a tightly focused combat game may find the emphasis on crew upkeep, trade, and state building a poor match.
- Players who prefer a fixed story structure may not enjoy a game framed around a story that varies by player choices.
- Players looking for a conventional gold-based treasure hunt may find the resource priorities unusual.
Our take on Feral Blue
Rather than centering a naval adventure on gold and treasure, Feral Blue makes survival resources the prize and puts ship upkeep and state-building alongside exploration and combat. Its captain can pursue very different forms of rule, including a science-focused empire or an anarchist cannibal kingdom.
What is Feral Blue?
After the Second Flood, survivors compete for resources such as clean water, food, wood, soil, and people.
Feral Blue puts players in command of a ship and its crew in a world of islands, floating cities, and sea nomads. Crew management includes keeping the galley, infirmary, and distiller running and preventing rebellion. Ships can use steam power, sails, oars, or a combination. Captains can explore, fight, and trade with others, replace a small sailboat with a dreadnought, and capture cities or build them. The broader aim is to lead a naval state, with possible directions ranging from scientific and technological development to anarchist cannibal rule.
How Feral Blue plays
- 01Ship power choices
- Steam energy, sails, and oars can be used individually or together.
- 02Crew upkeep
- The ship’s galley, infirmary, and distiller need to keep operating, while crew morale must be managed to prevent rebellion.
- 03Naval state building
- The crew’s captain can seize enemy cities or establish new ones and lead a state with a chosen direction.
- 04Resource-driven survival
- Food, water, soil, wood, and people matter more than gold in the flooded world.
