Our take on Fearmonium
The focus on Max’s inner world gives the game a concentrated setting, but also limits its range of environments to his memories, anxieties and fears.
What is Fearmonium?
Fearmonium is a metroidvania set inside the mind of Max, a boy whose memories of clowns at a fair become an unpleasant memory that grows into a phobia.
Players explore a map of abstract images and partly forgotten memories, encountering Max’s anxieties, other memories and enemies based on things he saw in the real world. Progression centers on reaching deeper areas of his consciousness and developing into a phobia. Combat uses combos and distinct abilities. The game combines suspense with humor and uses frame-by-frame, hand-drawn animation. It also presents information about how phobias form and about human consciousness, alongside the story’s question of whether a phobia can alter life in a positive way.
