Our take on Expand
The game departs from fixed-world exploration by making the labyrinth itself change around the character. Rotation, stretching and expansion replace a stable layout, so unfamiliar surroundings become the defining structure of movement and discovery.
What is Expand?
Expand is a minimalist 2D game about guiding a pink square through a circular labyrinth.
The environment continually rotates, unfolds, stretches and grows around the player, creating an unfamiliar setting to navigate. Parts of this changing world can lift the square, while other parts can harm it. The game contains five stages focused on exploration, discovery and introspection. Its atmosphere is supported by a soundtrack and by allegorical themes presented through the shifting environment. Movement through the labyrinth forms the central activity, with the changing structure affecting how the square travels through each stage.
