ActionIs Escape Space worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Arcade shooter players who want ship upgrades and RPG-style rank progression
- Players who enjoy choosing among factions with different weapons and combat approaches
- Players who want repeatable procedural missions alongside branching story content
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking adjustable difficulty for story missions, which have fixed difficulty
- Players looking for a mission structure without repeated wave combat, since several objectives involve fighting enemy waves
- Players who want a single linear story path rather than three routes through the handcrafted missions
Our take on Escape Space
Its mission structure pairs fixed-difficulty story stages with contracts that offer adjustable challenge. That leaves less control over story pacing and challenge than over contract difficulty, while faction routes and repeatable contracts provide the variation.
What is Escape Space?
Escape Space is an arcade space shooter with RPG mechanics.
Players choose which of 3 factions to support, fight enemy waves and bosses, and improve faction standing and rank. Story missions follow 3 paths, with up to 12 missions in a run and 22 handcrafted missions overall. Procedural contracts between story missions provide money or reputation, with 5 difficulty levels; story mission difficulty is fixed. Across up to 7 mission types, objectives include eliminating targets, collecting components, escorting allies, and surviving enemy waves.
Progression unlocks weapons, mods, and spaceship upgrades. The game includes 17 weapons, 12 mods, 45 upgrades, and 18 colors for two ship layers, plus a separate thruster color choice. Its visuals use hand-made pixel art, and the soundtrack was made with Scott Hsu.
