Our take on ELbab
The focus on automated combat reduces the need for moment-to-moment input, but it also leaves build planning and inventory decisions carrying most of the gameplay. The alpha status adds another constraint: enemy variety and balance remain works in progress.
What is ELbab?
ELbab is a pixel-art roguelite auto-battler set in an endlessly expanding library.
Each run takes 30 minutes to 1. 5 hours, with progress determined by selecting tiles along dungeon-like routes. Battles resolve automatically, while play centers on choosing books, managing attributes, and refining a build in the style of action-RPG planning. Mouse-only controls support relaxed, multitasking sessions. The game is intended to be difficult, but it is in alpha, with enemy variety and balance still being developed. Inventory space is deliberately limited, and respecializing Runestones is not currently available. The game provides basic DPS results rather than a detailed combat-calculation system.
How ELbab plays
- 01Automated Battles
- Combat resolves without direct battle commands, leaving build decisions as the main activity.
- 02Tile-Based Progression
- Runs advance by selecting tiles along paths through the library.
- 03Build Crafting
- Books, attributes, and related choices shape character builds during each run.
- 04Mouse-Only Play
- The game can be played with the mouse during sessions that also accommodate other activities.
- 05Limited Inventory
- The small inventory requires choices about which items to keep.
- 06Basic DPS Results
- Combat feedback includes basic damage-per-second results rather than detailed numerical breakdowns.
