Is Ectolibrium worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Players who want a 2.5D platformer with environmental puzzles and movement challenges
- Science-fiction fans who prefer discovering lore through exploration rather than exposition
- Action-platformer players who want either deliberate traversal or fast level runs
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking heavily explained narratives may hit a wall when the game leaves much of its lore implicit.
- Those wanting straightforward platforming may struggle with hazards, nuanced movement, and observation-based traversal.
- Players looking for a primarily combat-focused game may find the emphasis on exploration, puzzles, and environmental change mismatched.
- Players seeking a conventional, realistic setting may not connect with its alien wasteland, cults, and philosophical story threads.
Our take on Ectolibrium
The bounce point comes when the game’s lore stays indirect while traversal demands careful movement. Players who need explicit story explanations may disengage during exploration, while those expecting simple platforming can hit hazards that require observation, surface-clinging, flying, and precise reactions.
What is Ectolibrium?
Play as an alien creature abandoned in a hazardous wasteland and move through ruined environments by jumping, clinging to surfaces, and flying with ectoplasm.
Collect nutrient to grow seeds that create alien companions and alter the surrounding landscape, while solving puzzles and avoiding tentacles, spines, and tracking projectiles. The world contains lore about corporate cults, experimental science, lost souls, and a failed utopia, but presents little direct explanation. Demi and Tillinghast accompany the creature, offering conflicting perspectives and story threads. Exploration can include freeing, drowning, or ignoring lost souls. Levels support either careful observation and deliberate movement or faster play focused on completing them quickly.
How Ectolibrium plays
- 01Ectoplasm Movement
- The alien uses ectoplasm to travel through the air after jumping and gripping surfaces.
- 02Environmental Growth

- 03Hazardous Exploration
- Cavernous ruins contain tentacles, spines, homing projectiles, and other alien threats.
- 04Branching Story Choices
- Players can choose how to treat lost souls while following the agendas of Demi and Tillinghast.
