- Players looking for a climbing-focused action-puzzle game rather than combat, sorcery, and boss encounters
Our take on DurDanto
The split between a metroidvania overworld and separate roguelike dungeons adds structural variety, but it also divides the game between two progression formats instead of concentrating entirely on one exploration loop.
What is DurDanto?
DurDanto is a metroidvania set in a fallen city rendered in pixel art.
Players control Zubok, a young boy with Arcane sorcery, as he travels through city areas, uncovers secrets, and battles enemies using a sword, bow, and special skills. Four sorcery modes provide distinct abilities, including elemental powers used to open routes, escape traps, and solve puzzles. The game combines map-based exploration with separate roguelike dungeons. Relic and secret items can raise Zubok’s stats, while sorcery skills can push, pull, slow, or freeze enemies. Pixel-art enemies have different abilities and variations, and the campaign includes unique bosses.

Sundered: Eldritch Edition is the listed alternative that also uses metroidvania gameplay. DurDanto centers on a fallen-city map, four sorcery modes, elemental path solving, sword-and-bow combat, and separate roguelike dungeons, while Sundered is described as a chaotic metroidvania with a definitive edition and added update content.
