Our take on Dream
Rather than following a fixed adventure sequence, Dream lets players explore dream settings non-linearly and ties story progression to the choices made and dreams experienced. Its focus is on puzzles, collectibles and discovery rather than combat.
What is Dream?
Dream follows Howard Phillips through the inner landscapes of his subconscious, where vivid visions contrast with his unremarkable daily life.
Players roam surreal environments, tackle puzzles, gather collectibles and search for hidden discoveries. Dream settings include frozen deserts, warped staircases and unsettling nightmares. Exploration and narrative unfold without a fixed path: the places visited and decisions made shape Howard’s eventual direction, leading to several possible conclusions. An original score by Norman Legies accompanies these environments, with the soundtrack also sold separately. HyperSloth, a group of three students at the University of Huddersfield, developed the game as its first major release.
How Dream plays
- 01Branching Story
- Choices and the dreams visited influence Howard’s future, with multiple possible endings.
- 02Dream World Puzzles
- The abstract settings include puzzles, collectibles and secrets to discover.
- 03Original Soundtrack
- Composer Norman Legies created music for the dream worlds.
Dream compared to similar games
Jusant also combines exploration with puzzles, but centers on climbing a tower, managing stamina and choosing routes. Dream instead uses surreal dream worlds and choices that affect a branching narrative with multiple endings.
