Its autonomous-creature design shifts control from moment-to-moment commands to training and loadout choices. That gives matches a focus on shaping behavior, but leaves less room for players who want to direct every move during combat.
What is Dr. Derk's Mutant Battlegrounds?
Train Derklings, creatures with neural-network brains, then send them into battles against other players in a western-themed MOBA.
Set goals called bounties and train each creature to act on its own, then choose upgrades and items that affect its abilities and behavior. Derklings can take on roles such as healing, attacking opponents’ statues, or dealing damage as a team. Their neural networks have over 3,000 parameters, 32 memory slots, and can respond to more than 30 things they perceive. Battles contribute to a global ladder, where players can earn items. Neural-network visualizations provide a way to examine how the creatures behave. The game combines creature training and loadout choices with player-versus-player matches.
