Is Dobbel Dungeon worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- RPG players who want turn-based battles governed by dice management rather than hit checks
- Players who enjoy rebuilding a party across repeated roguelike adventures
- Tacticians who want to assign shared progression resources among three-character teams
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking real-time combat may bounce off the turn-based battle structure and start-of-turn dice planning
- Players who prefer fixed character progression may find shared skill points, changing builds, and run-based development demanding
- Players looking for a narrative RPG centered on one protagonist may not want party management and island-by-island runs
- Players seeking multiplayer play may not find a fit in this party-based adventure
Our take on Dobbel Dungeon
The bounce point arrives when a turn begins and the rolled dice do not match the intended actions. Players must spend dice-manipulating skills or items, or revise the turn’s plan. Shared skill points create another constraint for anyone expecting unrestricted character development.
What is Dobbel Dungeon?
Dobbel Dungeon is a turn-based tactical RPG with roguelike runs across cursed islands.
Each adventure begins with a party of 3 heroes, whose dice are rolled at the start of each turn and spent on actions. Abilities execute when their required dice are available, without hit-or-miss checks. Heroes have individual skill trees containing actions, passive effects, and modifiers, while artifacts can add skills or alter abilities. Runs include quests, bonus objectives, rescued heroes, build-defining items, and a shop. Skill points are shared across the party, requiring choices about which characters and upgrades to develop. Each island ends with a boss fight, and later runs can use different builds.
How Dobbel Dungeon plays
- 01Dice-based actions
- Characters spend their rolled dice on abilities that resolve whenever the required results are available.
- 02Three-hero parties
- Each expedition starts with 3 characters, with additional heroes found through quests.
- 03Hero skill trees
- Individual progression paths offer new actions, passive effects, and ability modifiers.
- 04Artifact customization
- Items can add abilities, alter skills, provide passive effects, or improve statistics.
- 05Shared skill points
- The party draws from one pool of skill points when developing its heroes.
- 06Island boss fights
- Every island concludes with a tactical battle against a boss.
Dobbel Dungeon compared to similar games
Shogun Showdown also uses turn-based roguelike combat, but centers on positioning, attack tiles, combos, and deck construction before facing the Shogun. Dobbel Dungeon instead manages a three-hero party through rolled dice, skill trees, artifacts, quests, and island-ending boss fights.
