Our take on Desktop Pet Project
The page foregrounds playful interruptions, but pet care also includes sleep and reactions to how pets are handled. Some behaviors can be switched off, so the interruptions are not unavoidable.
What is Desktop Pet Project?
Desktop Pet Project adds cats and other imported Shimeji pets to the computer screen.
Pets can be named, and up to four can be summoned at once. They have behavioral variations, need food and sleep, and may react when dragged or treated poorly; some behaviors can be disabled. Treats let pets be moved to another part of the screen. The game includes mini-games, several cat colors, and a manager for importing and customizing downloadable Shimeji. Steam Workshop provides community-created pets, and the pet creation manager lets users adjust interactions and sprites before uploading creations to the Workshop.
