Our take on Desktop Dinosaurs
The focus on observing and maintaining dinosaur lives leaves little room for campaign structure, combat, or broader strategic systems. The overlay mode also ties desktop use to Windows, while fullscreen play shifts the experience toward an animated pet scene rather than an interactive desktop companion.
What is Desktop Dinosaurs?
Desktop Dinosaurs places animated dinosaurs on the desktop or in a fullscreen scene.
Players manage the dinosaurs’ environment and resources throughout their lives, while caring for them as they eat, sleep, and die. The game includes two modes: an overlay that runs on the Windows desktop, and a fullscreen mode with an animated background and lighting that changes with the time of day. Dinosaurs can be named and petted. Their colors are randomly selected from 27 color sets. A shop offers dinosaur eggs, food, decorations, and toys. The available dinosaurs include Stegosaurus, Triceratops, Tyrannosaurus, Pachycephalosaurus, Parasaurolophus, and Ankylosaurus.
