Our take on Design it, Drive it : Speedboats
The store presentation places substantial emphasis on high-fidelity physics and use by real-world racers, while the playable structure is mainly a design sandbox, free driving, and solo leaderboard events. It does not present a conventional campaign or direct multiplayer racing format.
What is Design it, Drive it : Speedboats?
Design and drive speedboats using more than 40 adjustable parameters for vee-bottom outboards and adjustable formula-style outboard tunnels.
The game generates boat meshes from those parameters and simulates hydrodynamic, aerodynamic, buoyancy, friction, and propeller forces. Driving can include chine walking, porpoising, blowovers, engine trim, and jackplate adjustments. Free-drive mode allows unrestricted exploration, while Courses mode includes solo laps, point-to-point routes, and one-mile top-speed shootouts with separate leaderboards. Maps include Lotus Lake in Minnesota and Glen Canyon in Utah, with courses ranging from short four-turn circuits to a Glen Canyon route over 40 miles long. Keyboard, gamepad, joystick, steering wheel, force feedback, and optional Oculus Rift or Vive VR support are listed.
How Design it, Drive it : Speedboats plays
- 01Custom hull design
- Vee-bottom outboards offer more than 40 adjustable parameters, while formula-style outboard tunnels can also be modified.
- 02Physics force display
- A force-vector view shows forces acting on the boat and the hull areas contacting the water during motion.
- 03Free-drive mode
- Boats can be driven anywhere on either map without timers, goals, or buoy-marked routes.
- 04Competitive courses
- Solo laps, point-to-point runs, and one-mile top-speed shootouts submit results to separate course leaderboards.
- 05Controller options
- Inputs can combine keyboard, gamepad, joystick, and steering-wheel controls, with force feedback supported.
- 06Optional VR support
- Oculus Rift and Vive headsets are supported, while VR handheld controllers are not.
