Our take on Deichgraf
Rather than treating settlement building as a steady expansion exercise, Deichgraf makes water the central opposing force. Dikes address surges, but heavy rain requires separate drainage measures, turning weather response and village upkeep into the main structure of play.
What is Deichgraf?
Deichgraf is a village-building and resource-management game set in 16th-century East Frisia.
The church anchors the settlement, with nearby construction shaped by available space and materials. Lumberjacks supply wood, farms produce food, and houses generate thalers, while buildings also consume resources. Floods, storm surges, and heavy rain threaten the village. Dikes hold back rising water, while Siels, pumps, and ditches drain rainwater and dry flooded buildings so production can resume. Scenarios introduce changing conditions and increasingly difficult challenges, requiring adjustments to the village layout, resource use, and flood defenses.
