Our take on Defense of the Oasis
The game replaces the usual continuous empire-building arc with a fixed exploration window followed by a barbarian assault. Its Minesweeper-like discovery layer also makes map exploration the central method of developing the kingdom, rather than treating it as a separate opening phase.
What is Defense of the Oasis?
Defense of the Oasis combines Minesweeper-style exploration with Civilization-like empire building.
Each level provides 85 turns to discover cities, construct roads, research technology, and strengthen a kingdom. When the turns end, barbarian forces attack the cities. Surviving the assault allows capture of a kingdom Glyph of Power if one was found during exploration. The game requires collecting twelve Glyphs of Power across twelve different levels to win, while losing too many battles ends the game. It includes four difficulty settings and nine multi-level campaign scenarios. Levels are procedurally generated, producing varied layouts for repeated playthroughs.
