We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Strategy players who enjoy building production networks and managing resource flows.
- Base-building fans who want to balance colony expansion with defense.
- Players interested in economic play who want buying and selling tied to base growth.
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a combat-first game may find that production and resource management occupy much of the core loop.
- Those who dislike balancing ongoing supplies may hit a wall when keeping buildings fueled and colonists fed.
- Players looking for a puzzle game or party game rather than a colony-management strategy game may prefer another format.
Our take on Deep Space Directive
The pressure point is keeping the colony supplied while it grows: buildings need fuel cells and ore, colonists need food and water, and defenses require energy before nightfall. Players who find that overlapping upkeep tedious may bounce off once expansion adds more demands to manage.
What is Deep Space Directive?
Deep Space Directive follows an industrial colony spreading across a world divided into hexagonal tiles.
Players place mines and energy facilities, then route materials to smelters, factories, and refineries for construction and continued operation. Buildings consume fuel cells and ore, while residents require food and water. A larger population permits more structures. Defense involves choosing fixed towers or weaker mobile forces and maintaining enough power through the night. Hostile units can damage the colony but yield Terrene, a material used to extend the settlement toward further deposits. Commerce, facility improvements, and corporate earnings also shape the colony’s progress.
How Deep Space Directive plays
- 01Production chains
- Mines and power sources supply smelters, factories, and refineries, while buildings and colonists consume processed materials and provisions.
- 02Base defense
- Choose between stationary towers and mobile units, and maintain energy before nightfall to protect the colony.
- 03Enemy resources
- Defeated enemies drop Terrene, which can fund expansion toward additional resources.
- 04Colony growth
- A larger population supports more buildings, while colonists require food and water.
