Our take on Déjà Vu: MacVenture Series
The store emphasis on restoration and historical importance may understate how much of the experience depends on a dated window-based interface, item manipulation, and traditional puzzle solving. Its appeal rests on examining an early adventure format rather than modern presentation or action.
What is Déjà Vu: MacVenture Series?
Wake as detective Ace Harding in a Chicago bar bathroom with no memory of the previous night, a revolver nearby, and a murdered man upstairs.
Déjà Vu is a first-person mystery adventure set in a 1940s noir world and presented through the original Macintosh and Apple IIgs versions from 1985. Exploration covers more than 50 rooms, with puzzles solved through a window-based interface and draggable objects. The interface can be rearranged, while the retro graphics can be enlarged to fill the screen. Progress can be saved at any point, with unlimited save points available. The game combines investigation, item handling, environmental discovery, and a murder case across its two restored versions.
