Our take on Crypt Stalker
Rather than using modern recovery systems, Crypt Stalker returns to a stage-based action format built around hazards, food-based health recovery, limited controls, and repeated boss encounters. Its second mode also reframes the campaign as a monochrome handheld-style version with four additional levels.
What is Crypt Stalker?
Crypt Stalker is a retro-styled action game about Gladys and the fight against demons emerging from desert crypts.
Players battle through 13 stages using a cyber whip or sidearm while avoiding hazards such as rising magma and crushing walls. The game includes large end-stage bosses, a console version, and a monochromatic handheld mode with four additional levels. After completing the main stages, players can attempt boss rush and other challenges, as well as a sound test. Its presentation uses 8-bit graphics with era-inspired limitations and simulated screen flicker, alongside a chiptune soundtrack. Steam Achievements and extra content are also included.

Crypt Stalker compared to similar games
SUPER CHICKEN JUMPER combines runner movement with shooting, while Crypt Stalker uses discrete stages, whip or sidearm combat, traps, bosses, and a handheld-style replay mode. Sundered®: Eldritch Edition is a chaotic metroidvania, whereas Crypt Stalker presents a more linear 13-stage structure with boss rush and challenge extras.
