Our take on CORPUS EDAX
Players who expect every confrontation to resolve through one standard action may hit a wall at locked doors and guarded areas. Progress can depend on choosing among hacking, lockpicking, destruction, persuasion, or seduction based on the character’s abilities.
What is CORPUS EDAX?
CORPUS EDAX is a first-person melee RPG set in a distant retro-futuristic city on a planet with hidden secrets.
After waking from a medically induced coma, the player becomes involved in a conflict over justice and the city’s future. Character skills and A. G. N. I. S. attributes—Allure, Grit, Nerd, Intuition, and Strength—shape special dialogue choices and possible approaches. Locked doors can be hacked, lockpicked, destroyed, or bypassed by convincing or seducing a guard. Objects can be placed to reach areas or cross fences. Combat uses the body and improvised weapons, including throwable or swingable objects. Actions influence three reputation traits—Insightful, Impetuous, and Altruistic—which can unlock dialogue options and alter reactions. Skill points can support stealth, combat, or social play.
How CORPUS EDAX plays
- 01Stat-based conversations
- Character attributes determine special dialogue options, while reputation traits can open further responses.
- 02Improvised melee combat
- Pipes, chairs, and other objects can be thrown, swung, or kicked at opponents, with impacts affecting different body parts.
- 03Flexible obstacle handling
- Locked doors can be hacked, picked, broken, or bypassed by persuading or seducing their guards.
- 04Reputation traits
- Actions contribute to Insightful, Impetuous, or Altruistic traits that affect dialogue and character reactions.
CORPUS EDAX compared to similar games
Ghost of a Tale also combines action-RPG play with stealth and conversations, but it follows Tilo, a mouse and minstrel, through a medieval animal world. CORPUS EDAX instead uses first-person melee combat, character attributes, improvised objects, and multiple ways to handle locked doors and guards.
