Our take on Chronique des Silencieux
Rather than centering a mystery on clues presented for players to inspect, the investigation puts questioning and persuasion at the forefront. Players choose how far to pursue leads and must convince guarded characters to speak, replacing a more passive, guided detective structure with player-led inquiry.
What is Chronique des Silencieux?
Set in 1970s southern France, this adventure follows a rookie private eye hired to help Catherine uncover the history of her father, Victor Dousvalon, an old history professor who keeps his past secret.
The case begins after an apparently harmless accident and raises questions about Victor’s silence and Catherine’s sudden wish to learn about him. Investigation involves examining family papers, asking witnesses personal questions, and calling at inconvenient times. Players select leads, pursue them or stop when they think they have the right idea, and form hypotheses about what happened.
To get people to talk, the investigator must make a convincing case. The story focuses on the lives, choices, and tragedies of people encountered during the investigation, presenting history through their personal experiences rather than from a broad overview.
