Our take on Charlie the Duck
The defining structure is a constant-speed side-scrolling platform game: movement runs at one pace while progress depends on jumping over enemies, collecting items, and diving into selected water sections to uncover hidden routes.
What is Charlie the Duck?
Charlie the Duck is a 2D side-scrolling platform game and a remake of a 1996 MS-DOS release.
Players move through levels, gather coins, diamonds, and power-ups, defeat enemies by jumping on them, and enter water in certain places to reach concealed areas. Movement uses left and right directions, while jumping is assigned to Up or Space and diving to Down. This version removes separate slow and fast walking controls, so some stages were adjusted for constant movement speed. It also includes changes intended to make play less frustrating and adds background music.
How Charlie the Duck plays
- 01Collectible Items
- Levels contain coins, diamonds, and power-ups to gather during each run.
- 02Enemy Stomping
- Enemies can be defeated by landing on them from above.
- 03Underwater Secrets
- Certain water sections conceal additional areas that can be reached by diving.
- 04Constant Movement Speed
- Stage layouts were modified because the remake removes separate controls for slower and faster walking.
- 05Background Music
- The remake adds music that was not part of the original version.
