Our take on CHAQS
Rather than presenting terminal use as a supporting tool, CHAQS makes it the central play space. Its graphical desktop supplies the surrounding structure, while commands, utilities, and submitted answers replace the usual movement, combat, or inventory loop found in many simulation games.
What is CHAQS?
CHAQS combines an operating-system-style graphical interface with Capture The Flag challenges.
Its terminal, inspired by Unix shells, forms the main gameplay system and includes dozens of commands and utilities for tasks such as searching, decoding, networking, steganography, file handling, and text processing. Each mission requires an answer before the next one opens, while beginner challenges provide guidance. The game also includes a runtime compiler for executing C# files, an in-game browser, media and utility programs, voice-command actions, image steganography tools, and five window-arrangement layouts. Optional services can use an IP address to provide weather and map information. The challenges resemble ethical hacking but do not fully reproduce real-world practice.
How CHAQS plays
- 01Command-line challenges
- Missions require submitted answers and can use the game's terminal commands and utilities.
- 02C# runtime compiler

- 03Embedded web browser
- Browser+ provides a CEF-based browsing application inside CHAQS.
- 04Steganography toolkit
- Image channel viewing and command-line utilities support several forms of hidden-data investigation.
- 05Desktop-style applications
- Included programs cover functions such as video playback, music playback, note-taking, and photo viewing.
- 06Voice command actions
- Bliss converts predefined voice commands into actions.
- 07Window snap layouts
