- Players looking for connected levels with a continuous structure, as each level has independent tasks
Our take on Chained in the Backrooms
Instead of letting co-op players move independently, the game makes the party’s shared chain a central constraint. That convention turns traversal into a coordination problem, affecting puzzle attempts and creature escapes rather than serving only as a multiplayer format.
What is Chained in the Backrooms?
This 1–4-player co-op horror game places toy bears in a dreamlike Backrooms setting, linked by chains that restrict movement and require coordinated travel.
Players explore liminal environments, solve puzzles, complete tasks and mini-games, interact with surroundings, and face creatures with distinct designs. Each level can introduce different environments, challenges and enemies, while player choices affect progression. Items found during exploration can restore stamina and health. Losing sends the group back to a checkpoint, and the difficulty rises through the levels. Levels are independent rather than connected, with transitions shown to players. Completing every level moves the group through layers of the dream and toward escape.
How Chained in the Backrooms plays
- 01Chained Cooperation
- Movement is constrained by shared chains, so players must coordinate while solving challenges and escaping creatures.
- 02Level-Specific Challenges
- Individual levels can contain distinct environments, puzzles, mini-games and creatures.
- 03Survival Items
- Looted objects can restore stamina and health during exploration.
- 04Checkpoint Restarts
- A failed attempt returns players to the checkpoint for that level.
- 05Rising Difficulty
- Challenges become more difficult as the group progresses.
