Our take on Centrist
The game trades broad puzzle variety for a focused central-board challenge. Its fixed health pool and damage rules add pressure, while the Centrist mode removes rotation, limiting placement control in exchange for a distinct rule set.
What is Centrist?
Centrist is a block-stacking game built around forming squares around a central piece.
Blocks arrive from four directions, and the game becomes harder as more blocks are destroyed. The player starts with 10 health. Misplacing a block at the spawn line causes 5 damage and clears nearby blocks, while pieces falling from the board reduce health according to their size. Bombs always cause 5 damage. Several modes change the rules: Centrist uses irregular pieces and bombs without rotation, Classic uses rotatable standard pieces without bombs, and Bombastic combines standard pieces, rotation, and bombs. Extremist places blocks in the corners rather than around the center. Special blocks include bombs, beams, flames, and shockwave effects.
How Centrist plays
- 01Four Game Modes
- Modes vary the available shapes, rotation, bombs, collapsing outer layers, and whether blocks surround the center or occupy corners.
- 02Special Blocks
- Bombs, beams, flames, filler bombs, and shockwave bombs clear, add, or move blocks across defined areas.
- 03Health-Based Failure
- The session ends when the player's 10 health reaches zero after placement errors or falling pieces.
- 04Layer Scoring
- Completing layers awards escalating scores, from 640 points for the first layer to 64,000 points for the tenth.
