Our take on Castaway Station
Rather than centering one hero, the game makes each run a two-character operation, with teamwork cards and shared decisions shaping battles. Its deck-building structure also treats cards as expendable equipment-linked resources, while custom card creation replaces a fixed progression path.
What is Castaway Station?
Castaway Station is a roguelike deck-building survival game about two survivors stranded on a hostile planet after a cruiser accident.
Choose two of four characters, combine their abilities, and undertake missions to find equipment, resources, and other survivors. Character cards are linked to equipment and lose charges when played, while Story cards vary with encounters, enemies, locations, and weather. The game includes 28 missions, branching paths, repeatable objectives, custom card creation, equipment upgrades, and a Bestiary for discovered creatures. Failed runs preserve unlocked cards, upgraded equipment, and earned currency. Characters who die remain unavailable for the rest of that run. Completing the game unlocks nine additional difficulty levels.
How Castaway Station plays
- 01Two-Character Teams
- Battles combine two of four survivors, whose distinct cards and abilities can interact through shared Teamwork cards.
- 02Limited Card Charges
- Character cards consume one charge each time they are played, and depletion unlocks new cards after every 10 exhausted cards.
- 03Story Card Deck
- A separate deck supplies cards shaped by the current encounter, enemies, location, and weather.
- 04Mission-Based Structure
- The Mission Log offers 28 missions, including required objectives and repeatable activities with branching paths.
- 05Custom Card Creation
- The Synthesizer produces character cards with selectable attack and defense options that do not consume charges.
- 06Persistent Run Progress
- Failed attempts retain unlocked cards, upgraded equipment, and earned currency for later runs.
- 07Creature Bestiary
- Discoveries add alien creatures to a Bestiary containing details and combat tips, with player-created names.
