Our take on Cast
Cast replaces conventional three-dimensional platforming with a projection-based structure. The player moves a two-dimensional shadow while directing a sphere in 3D, using changes in viewpoint to find routes around obstacles rather than navigating the space directly.
What is Cast?
Cast combines a decryption game with platform-jumping elements.
Players move a two-dimensional circular shadow to guide a three-dimensional sphere toward its endpoint. The sphere can move freely in three-dimensional space, while its shadow faces restrictions across three two-dimensional planes. Switching the active projection plane can reveal routes around walls and spikes. Levels include lasers, spikes, portals, and entities with 3D models. Portals can move objects, while actions affecting entities on one plane can control entities on the other two. Chapters feature background music and levels that may take two to three hours to solve. An open level editor shows how Cast levels were made and allows players to create their own stages.
How Cast plays
- 01Projection-based movement
- Switching the active plane changes two spatial coordinates of the three-dimensional sphere.
- 02Cross-plane obstacles
- Levels combine walls, spikes, lasers, portals, and entities across the three projection views.
- 03Open level editor
- The editor shows how existing levels were built and allows custom stages to be created.
- 04Chapter switching
- Players can move to another chapter when a level prevents further progress.
