Our take on Brány Skeldalu
The defining detail is its grid-based dungeon structure, where a party of up to six heroes alternates between tactical battles, spell use, traps, and puzzles.
What is Brány Skeldalu?
Gates of Skeldal is a Czech RPG from 1998 built around dungeon exploration.
On Rovenland, a legendary island, as many as six heroes journey across ruined sites, underground complexes, temples, frozen caves, volcanic areas, and Stormy Mountain. Their mission is to prevent five renegade mages from creating an entrance to Zohar, a forbidden realm. Movement follows a tile-based layout, and battles unfold through alternating turns that call for tactical choices. Every party member brings different abilities and skills. Characters may acquire spells, uncover old scrolls, and use sorcery alongside physical attacks. Traps and puzzles appear throughout the dungeons, making advancement depend on more than combat. The setting and narrative are shown through a combination of two-dimensional and three-dimensional visuals.
