Our take on Bot Hunter

Instead of treating weapon color as decoration, the game makes it part of damage decisions. It also replaces character levels with weapon construction, asking players to improve through collected parts and recipes while choosing between job offers.

What is Bot Hunter?

Bot Hunter is a fast-paced roguelite shooter in which a vacuum cleaner bounty hunter takes jobs across five themed planets.

Missions lead to procedurally generated enemy ships, where targets use armor in primary or secondary colors. Weapon colors determine how attacks interact with that armor: cyan, magenta, and yellow ammunition can match primary defenses or combine against red, blue, and green armor. Character progression does not use levels. Instead, missions provide items and recipes for crafting improved weapons. Each weapon contains five modular parts covering heat capacity, input handling, projectile behavior, ammunition type, and projectile color. Ship panels also provide hacks, while job offers determine which hunt to accept.

How Bot Hunter plays

01Color-Based Combat
Match cyan, magenta, or yellow ammunition to enemy armor, including secondary colors made from primary ones.
02Five-Part Weapons
Weapons combine modules for heat limits, controls, projectile flight, ammunition type, and shot color.
03Crafting Progression
Missions provide components and recipes for weapon upgrades instead of character levels.
04Procedural Ships
Accepted contracts send the hunter through enemy ships generated for each hunt.
05Ship Hacks
Panels found in some rooms grant a choice of hacks for different play styles.

Bot Hunter compared to similar games

Bot Hunter and Abyssus are both fast-paced roguelite shooters, but Bot Hunter centers combat on matching ammunition colors to enemy armor and assembling weapons from five module types. Abyssus focuses on multiplayer runs through hand-crafted levels, with brine-based weapons modified using ancient technologies.
