Our take on BIRDCAGE
Rather than relying only on ranged fire, BIRDCAGE gives its gunship a sword that serves as both an attack and a defense. It also offers a story mode alongside score-focused modes, including one that removes the narrative interludes.
What is BIRDCAGE?
BIRDCAGE is a vertical shoot ’em up where players fly the experimental HALCYON gunship.
Its arsenal features a wide shot, a focused shot, and a sword usable for both attacking and defense. Story Mode contains six stages, each structured around mid-bosses, main bosses, and story interludes, within a science-fiction struggle involving SELENE and RADON. Arcade Mode omits the narrative sections and centers on shorter score runs. Score Attack creates a timed challenge with an endless flow of enemies. Retro games and anime influence the visuals, which use sprite enlargement, pre-rendered environments, and sparse textures to recall early 3D imagery. The audio pairs vintage hardware sounds with synthesis and samples, plus custom effects and old-school boss performances.
