Our take on Beholder's Lair
Rather than centering platforming on combat, the game makes enemy avoidance and movement-pattern study the main challenge. Permanent death replaces checkpoint-based progression, while random item combinations add run-to-run variation to a compact dungeon escape structure.
What is Beholder's Lair?
Beholder’s Lair is a difficult 2D platformer about escaping a dungeon occupied by a beholder.
Players avoid several enemy types by observing their movement and choosing when to move. The game includes three dungeons, each with its own environment and enemy. Death is permanent for the current attempt, so a new run does not resume from the previous position. After every level, randomly selected items provide combinations that can support or hinder progress. The game also records high scores for individual levels and the complete run’s finishing time. Its setting follows an adventurer captured by cultists after exploring the Zindan dungeon near the desert city of Urf.
How Beholder's Lair plays
- 01Permanent Death
- Each failed attempt requires starting again rather than continuing from the point of failure.
- 02Three Dungeon Areas
- The game presents three handcrafted environments, each featuring a distinct enemy.
- 03Random Item Sets
- Items appear after levels and can form combinations that either support or hinder advancement.
- 04Time-Based Records
- High scores track both individual level results and the total completion time.
Beholder's Lair compared to similar games
Beholder’s Lair focuses on avoiding enemies across three dungeons, with permanent death, random item combinations, and completion-time records. SUPER CHICKEN JUMPER is a runner with shooting, while Sundered: Eldritch Edition is a chaotic metroidvania rather than a compact avoidance-focused platformer.
