Our take on Beat Souls
Rather than limiting rhythm play to timed button inputs, the game adds simultaneous lane movement, jumping, and companion control. Its scoring also depends on matching companion colors to incoming Beat Souls while avoiding hazards, making spatial management part of the rhythm challenge.
What is Beat Souls?
Beat Souls is a rhythm action game set in a neon cyberpop world.
Players control Mikoto, dodging Noise by moving left or right and jumping in time with the music. Two floating Otomo companions collect incoming Beat Souls; their position and color must be managed to match each soul. Collisions damage the player, break combos, and drain stamina. More than 30 stages offer selectable difficulty levels. Fever Time increases scoring during qualifying sections, while additional characters can be unlocked, each with a special skill. Infinite Hell Mode contains three endless stages with rankings, where missed Beat Souls and Noise collisions reduce the Excite Gauge until the run ends.
How Beat Souls plays
- 01Dual Character Control
- Mikoto dodges hazards while the two Otomo companions are positioned and recolored to collect matching Beat Souls.
- 02Selectable Difficulty
- Each stage offers difficulty choices suited to different skill levels.
- 03Fever Scoring
- Catching Beat Souls fills a gauge that can activate score increases during Fever Time sections.
- 04Unlockable Characters
- Progression opens additional characters, each with an assigned special skill.
- 05Endless Ranking Mode
- Infinite Hell Mode has three continuous stages and global rankings for high-score attempts.
Beat Souls compared to similar games
Intralism focuses on matching arcs to the beat, with player-created beatmaps, online multiplayer, and global rankings. Beat Souls instead combines rhythm timing with obstacle avoidance, companion positioning, color matching, stage difficulty selection, and an endless mode. SUPER CHICKEN JUMPER is a runner with shooting, while Beat Souls centers on music-synchronized dodging and score collection.
