Our take on Beard Blade
The focus on traditional platforming gives up broader genre variety: progression centers on movement, combat, collectibles, and beard upgrades rather than systems such as dialogue-driven role-playing or tactical planning.
What is Beard Blade?
Beard Blade is a traditional platformer set across tropical beaches, caves, harbors, and other areas.
Branson uses a shapeshifting beard to fight creatures and reclaim livestock stolen by the Smuglins. Movement includes running, jumping, swimming, and climbing. Coins found in levels can be spent at Forbeau’s barbershop on new moves, beard abilities, and increases to the life meter. A day-and-night system provides different versions of most levels, allowing routes to be played separately or skipped. Levels also contain tokens, treasures, enemy cards, music records, and spendable coins. Pixel-art presentation, animated characters, and a soundtrack draw from 16-bit and 32-bit game styles.
How Beard Blade plays
- 01Beard Upgrades

- 03Collectible Levels
- Stages include coins alongside tokens, treasures, enemy cards, and music records.
- 04Island Movement
- Branson crosses beaches, caves, and harbors using running, jumping, swimming, and climbing.
Beard Blade compared to similar games
