SimulationIs Battlecruiser Generations worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Players interested in detailed starship and crew management rather than a simple space shooter
- Space exploration fans who prefer open-ended play over a fixed plot
- Players seeking a collection of older single-player space games and willing to configure DOS titles
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players looking for a focused, linear campaign may find the open-ended modes less structured.
- Players who prefer minimal management may find crew assignments, ship systems, and personnel needs demanding.
- Anyone seeking multiplayer should note that all four games are single-player.
- Players who want a modern-format release may not want games preserved in their original formats.
Our take on Battlecruiser Generations
Preserving the original versions keeps the collection tied to its older formats: DOS titles need DOSBOX or a virtual environment, and newer Windows systems require compatibility settings for the Windows games.
What is Battlecruiser Generations?
This compendium contains four games: Battlecruiser 3000AD, Battlecruiser 3000AD v2, Battlecruiser Millennium, and Battlecruiser Millennium Gold.
Each is preserved in its original format using its final patch. Gameplay centers on commanding a battlecruiser and crew, controlling fighters and other vehicles, exploring space and planets, mining, trading, and engaging targets. The universe includes 25 star systems, 75 planets, 145 moons, and 13 alien races. Three play modes include open-ended command or exploration, a mission-based Advanced Campaign, and Xtreme Carnage combat scenarios. All four games are single-player. The two DOS titles require DOSBOX under Windows or a virtual environment; Windows 7 and later require XP SP3 compatibility mode for the Windows games. Setup and runtime documentation is provided.
