RPGIs Barter Empire worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- RPG players who want many life-simulation and commerce activities alongside quests
- Open-world explorers who prefer non-linear progression and optional side content
- Players seeking relationship, property, farming, and guild systems in one adventure
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a tightly focused campaign may find the many parallel systems and activities diffuse
- Those wanting a short or purely combat-driven RPG may not suit a game built around farming, trade, crafting, and domestic systems
- Players looking for a puzzle-focused or management-only game may prefer a narrower format
Our take on Barter Empire
The listing foregrounds a large sandbox and a broad feature list, but the central story and its 40-plus-hour scope sit alongside many optional systems. The result is a wide role-playing package rather than a narrowly focused adventure campaign.
What is Barter Empire?
Barter Empire follows Malice, a young adventurer searching for her past and fortune in Ditherra, a kingdom divided by war, plague, political conflict, and rebellion.
The role-playing game combines a story campaign with open exploration, side quests, combat, and dialogue choices. Players can farm crops and animals, cook, craft, fish, hunt, practice alchemy, trade goods, and barter for rare items. Other activities include buying land deeds, homes, and businesses; collecting rent; joining guilds; managing a farm or base; commanding a ship; gambling in casinos and arenas; picking locks; marrying; and adopting children. The game includes nearly 30 playable characters, level-scaling monsters, and more than 40 hours of content across main quests, side quests, and other activities.
