Our take on Backrooms: Lost Tape
Rather than centering progression on combat or conventional level objectives, the game uses Tapes as story chapters within liminal spaces. Exploration, puzzles, mysteries, and encounters with entities replace a standard action-game structure, while the HUD-free presentation keeps attention on the environments.
What is Backrooms: Lost Tape?
Backrooms: Lost Tape is a walking simulator about a cinema employee stranded in the Backrooms, a maze of eerie yellow rooms.
The player explores these spaces, investigates their mysteries, solves puzzles, and avoids hostile entities while seeking an escape. The experience is organized into Tapes, or chapters, with each one introducing its own cast, plot threads, obstacles, and unexplained events. Josh’s Tape covers the usher’s disappearance and struggle inside the Backrooms. Nikolas’s Tape follows an effort to locate Josh and extends the broader narrative. Exploration unfolds across several levels without an on-screen HUD, combining environmental investigation with puzzles and encounters. Further chapters are planned as downloadable content.
