ActionIs AWAY: The Survival Series worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Adventure players who want a story about a small animal trying to reunite with its family
- Explorers who enjoy searching beyond the main route for side quests and hidden details
- Players interested in wildlife encounters and switching between different animal characters
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a primarily combat-focused experience may find the mix of gliding, exploration, and stealth too broad
- Those looking for highly varied repeated sessions may find the story-led journey less suited to replay than open-ended play
- Players who do not use a controller may find the recommended control setup less suitable
Our take on AWAY: The Survival Series
Its animal perspective and narrated exploration come at the expense of a conventional action-adventure focus: combat is only one part of a journey that also centers on gliding, searching, and observation.
What is AWAY: The Survival Series?
This story-based adventure follows a young sugar glider trying to save his family.
Travel through large natural environments, glide between trees, hunt small prey, and fight or evade larger predators using stealth and agility. A narrator describes the glider’s actions, giving the journey a nature-documentary framing. The main story can be followed directly, while side quests and off-path exploration reveal additional mysteries. Other playable animals, including beetles, lizards, and crabs, are hidden around the environments. Camera mode can be used during play to capture landscape and wildlife images. The vendor recommends a Microsoft Xbox Controller for Windows or an equivalent controller.
