Our take on Attack of the Karens
Rather than centering a conventional fantasy, science-fiction, or military conflict, the game builds its boss campaign around the “Karen” meme. Its roguelite structure also makes repeated runs and upgrade selection the frame for a parody-driven shoot ’em up.
What is Attack of the Karens?
A difficult roguelite shoot-'em-up built around bosses with several stages, it places players in control of the Manager X-15 across six areas.
Battles pit the pilot against cyborg Karens and their mechanical troops, including foes that wield spent coupons and hostile coffee cups. Weapon and character development includes over 40 choices during individual runs, plus more than 20 lasting improvements that carry strength between attempts. The campaign features four main Karen bosses, spoken lines for Amanda and those bosses, frame-by-frame pixel artwork, and music drawing on 8-bit console sounds. Its story presents the city’s defense against an extraterrestrial disease that changed four women into cyborgs.
