Our take on Ato
The atmospheric presentation receives strong emphasis, while the core play also depends on repeated individual duels. Progression adds abilities and upgrades, but each encounter still centers on observing an opponent and responding with parries, evasions, and attacks.
What is Ato?
Ato is an atmospheric Metroidvania sword-dueling game set in an era inspired by feudal Japan.
It follows a father whose peaceful life with his wife and child is disrupted when his child is taken by the clan he once served. The story is told visually without words. Exploration leads through colorful environments, where new abilities and upgrades expand combat options and provide ways to solve environmental puzzles. Combat consists of duels with opponents who have distinct fighting styles. Players can attempt risky parries, evade attacks, bounce off opponents, and observe each adversary before overcoming them. Three difficulty options are available: Assist for casual play, Accessible for a moderate challenge, and Experienced for players familiar with difficult games.
