Our take on Ascendant Hearts
The game trades broad RPG freedom for a directed visual-novel format. Quests, party conflicts, romance routes, and the investigation of Lightshire's attacks are presented within a story-led structure rather than an open-ended role-playing system.
What is Ascendant Hearts?
Ascendant Hearts follows Hayato, who wakes with amnesia in a fantasy world resembling the games he remembers.
With help from the mage Shiori, he learns to fight monsters, complete fetch quests, use an inventory, and accept missions from non-player characters. The story centers on attacks threatening the town of Lightshire, leading Hayato and his party toward dangerous dungeons and the source of the monsters. The game parodies familiar JRPG and MMORPG conventions while maintaining a light, humorous tone. Its settings include a haunted library, a laboratory belonging to a mad scientist, and an eldritch temple. Player choices lead to three romance routes and three main endings.
