Our take on Ark Noir
The defining structure is a climb through a sinking ship where equipment wears out, forcing choices between fighting, evading, and spending resources on survivors.
What is Ark Noir?
Ark Noir is a resource-management RPG set aboard the Noir, an emigrant ship sinking into the ocean.
Search floors for weapons, items, containers, survivors, and events while moving toward higher levels. Battles require managing equipment with limited durability, evading beasts, and preparing for bosses that appear every 100 steps. Helping survivors can provide information and EXP, but resources are limited and leaving them behind is also possible. Every four EXP raises the main character’s level, allowing a choice between HP recovery, Fortune recovery, or a status bonus, along with new Perks. Replaying increases the available Initial Perks. The story follows routes involving the sinking’s mystery, survivor rescues, character endings, and the pursuit of Fortune.
How Ark Noir plays
- 01Durable Equipment
- Weapons and items eventually break, forcing battles with bare hands or encouraging evasion.
- 02Perk Customization
- Leveling grants new Perks, while completed conditions unlock additional starting options and slots.
- 03Survivor Decisions
- Players can spend resources to help people aboard the ship, gaining EXP and potentially useful information.
- 04Scheduled Bosses
- A boss appears on each floor after every 100 steps, making equipment and HP management part of progression.
- 05Replay Unlocks
- Later playthroughs add more Initial Perks for pursuing different survival and story goals.
Ark Noir compared to similar games
Ark Noir combines a sinking-ship survival climb with equipment durability, Fortune management, Perk-based character building, and choices about helping survivors. Planescape: Torment: Enhanced Edition centers on exploring a strange city and its story, while Back to the Dawn focuses on surviving, investigating, and escaping a maximum-security prison. These alternatives do not share Ark Noir’s sinking-ship progression and equipment-breakage structure.
