RPGIs Archaelund worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Roleplaying game fans who want to explore dungeons from a first-person view
- Players who prefer turn-based, grid-positioned party combat
- Players interested in character careers and a fantasy setting shaped by political conflict
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players who want combat to stay in real time may hit a wall when encounters switch to turn-based orders.
- Players who want one consistent camera perspective may find the shift between first-person exploration and top-down battles disruptive.
- Players looking for a puzzle-focused game may find the party progression and tactical battles take up too much of the experience.
Our take on Archaelund
The clearest point of friction is the transition into combat: exploration gives way to top-down, grid-based turns and party orders. Players who do not want to pause exploration to position characters and plan tactical moves may bounce off once the first battle begins.
What is Archaelund?
Archaelund is a roleplaying game about leading an adventuring party through an open fantasy world and its dungeons.
Exploration uses a first-person view; combat switches to a top-down view, where party members take positions on a grid and act in turn-based battles. Characters begin in careers such as hunter, squire, beggar, or street ruffian, and can later move into other careers, including Knight, Assassin, Loreseeker, or Battlemage. As characters gain levels, they receive new tactical options rather than only higher numbers. The world includes people to meet, quests, mysteries, battles, and treasure. Its setting follows colonists returning to the old continent of Andoria, where warped creatures, arcane hazards, and conflict among the Exiled Kingdoms shape the expedition.
How Archaelund plays
- 01Dual-view exploration and combat
- Dungeon exploration uses a first-person view, while battles place the party on a grid in a top-down view.
- 02Career-based progression
- Characters can move from starting roles such as beggar or hunter into careers including Knight, Assassin, Loreseeker, or Battlemage.
- 03Tactical level advancement
- Gaining levels adds tactical options for combat rather than only increasing character numbers.
- 04Open-world quests
- Exploration can lead to conversations, quests, mysteries, conflicts, battles, and treasure.
