Our take on Always Surrender
The surrender mechanic gives the game its central tension, but it also makes continued play a calculated liability: staying alive can raise the bonus while increasing the chance of losing the run before banking it.
What is Always Surrender?
Always Surrender is a vertically scrolling shoot-'em-up built around score attacks and risk management.
Enemy waves continue without end while players choose when to surrender and secure a bonus. Six modes change the rules: Normal and Expert use limited lives, Timed lasts 3 minutes with unlimited lives and bombs, Classic removes surrender, Novice provides an easier starting mode, and Pacifist forbids shooting. Medals increase the multiplier and contribute to the growing bonus; briefly stopping fire can draw them in. The game also includes bullets and lasers to dodge, danger-triggered slow motion with temporary invincibility, hidden ways to spawn medals, Tate support, customizable interface elements, leaderboards, and achievements.
How Always Surrender plays
- 01Six Game Modes
- Rules include one-life surrender runs, a 3-minute challenge, a no-surrender mode, an easier starting mode, and a no-shooting mode.
- 02Risk-Based Scoring
- Surrendering banks the accumulated bonus, while continuing exposes the run to further enemy attacks.
- 03Medal Multipliers
- Collected medals raise the score multiplier and add to the increasing bonus.
- 04Danger Slowdown
- A slow-motion effect can activate when danger is close and grants temporary invincibility.
- 05Customizable Interface
- The game allows changes to its user interface.
