Our take on ACRES
The farm’s central pressure comes from queued crop orders that lose value as they age and can expire, making harvest timing part of the economy.
What is ACRES?
ACRES is a strategy simulation about growing crops to meet changing market demand.
Players build a farm acre by acre, sowing and tending crops before harvesting them for queued market orders. Each order requests specific crops and quantities, and expires after a time limit; its value falls as it ages, while too many expired orders lower the farm’s reputation. Farming work includes preparing soil, planting seeds, controlling weeds, managing water, pH, and nutrients, and harvesting mature crops. Hand tools can be replaced with tractor-powered equipment that processes fields faster, but upgraded machinery costs more to use. Players decide when those expenses make sense while purchasing land, unlocking crops and implements, and keeping the farm operating under increasing time pressure.
How ACRES plays
- 01Timed market orders
- Order value declines over time, and too many expired requests reduce farm reputation.
- 02Soil management
- Adjust water, pH, and nutrients to maintain conditions for different crops.
- 03Equipment automation
- Tractors and implements speed up field work, with higher operating costs for improved equipment.
- 04Farm expansion
- Purchase additional land and unlock more crops and implements as the farm develops.
