Our take on A Day of Maintenance
Rather than using exploration for constant discovery or danger, the game centers routine maintenance work, long drives, and conversations with robot characters. Crane operation and station repairs replace the usual combat or puzzle-focused structure, while romance and worker-consciousness discussions sit alongside the technical tasks.
What is A Day of Maintenance?
Drive a Massive Self-Sustaining Installation Repair Truck through a desert around New Port City in the early 2100s.
The work involves visiting guidance stations for docking spaceships and repairing them with a crane-mounted multi-tool. Between maintenance shifts, the game presents conversations with a robot boyfriend, six workmates, and other characters. Topics include databases, satellite software, trains, spaceships, philosophy, hats, and robot consciousness. The roughly 8-hour experience follows a deliberately slow pace and includes an open desert to cross. It combines driving, crane operation, exploration, interactive fiction, gay romance, and a possible conspiracy. Gamepad play is recommended, with mouse and keyboard controls available for all functions.
