Our take on '83
The quick-return match structure reduces the downtime found in longer tactical shooters, but the game gives up slower, more deliberate preparation in favor of reaching combat within 30 to 40 minutes.
What is '83?
'83 is an online first-person tactical shooter set in a 1983 conflict between NATO and Warsaw Pact forces.
Players join 40-versus-40 battles involving infantry, vehicles, tanks, and fire missions. Matches last 30 to 40 minutes and center on squad-based objectives that require coordinated attacks, flanks, diversions, and support fire. Team Commanders direct their faction through an RTS-style layer. Weapons and equipment reflect the period, with handling and lethality shaped by features such as overheating barrels and suppressors, deployed machine guns, and magazine-specific ammunition behavior. Players can adjust loadouts within boundaries set by predefined classes, including the Team Commander role. The game emphasizes quick access to combat while retaining fast deaths and team-focused tactical play.
